From Main Street to the ridges above Hazelwood, we inspect for free, quote in person and do the work with our own crew.
Waynesville is the Haywood County seat and the largest town between Asheville and the Tennessee line, about half an hour west of our office on Church Street along I-40 and US-23/74. The housing is a mix: brick and frame homes from the early 1900s around Main Street and Frog Level, mill-era houses in Hazelwood, church and summer homes around Lake Junaluska, and newer subdivisions that climb the slopes toward Balsam and the Plott Balsams. We handle roof replacement, repairs, standing-seam metal, siding and gutters for all of it.
The town sits near 2,700 feet, which is enough elevation to change what a roof goes through. Waynesville gets snow and ice more often than Asheville does, and freeze-thaw cycles work on anything that is already loose: lifted shingle tabs, cracked pipe boots, old step flashing at a chimney. North-facing slopes hold ice at the eaves long after the sun has cleared the front of the house, which is where ice dams start. On the older in-town homes the roof below the shingles matters as much as the shingles, because decking and framing from eighty or a hundred years ago were never built around a modern underlayment and ventilation package.
Our process is the same here as anywhere else we work. An exterior consultant comes out, gets on the roof, photographs what is there, and sits down with you at the kitchen table to go through the findings and a written, itemized price. There is no pressure; the point of the free inspection is a clear answer about what the roof needs, and the quote is yours to keep whether you hire us or not.
A full tear-off on a Waynesville home means dealing with whatever the old roof was hiding: soft decking around a chimney, a second layer of shingles somebody laid over the first, framing that has settled a little on a 1920s house off Main Street. We price all of that up front, replace decking by the sheet, and install an architectural shingle system with new underlayment, ice barrier where the eaves need it, drip edge and ventilation.
Wind funnels down the valleys around Waynesville and tree strikes are common on the wooded lots above town. If a limb has come through or there are shingles in the yard, we tarp first, then document the damage with photos you can hand to your insurance adjuster. We help with the insurance side, from the first photos to the written scope the carrier needs.
Standing-seam metal sheds snow instead of holding it, which is why so many homes on the ridges above Waynesville have gone to it. We install it over a synthetic underlayment, with attention to how the panels terminate at the eaves and where the snow is going to come off, and we quote it beside a shingle price so you can see the real difference on your own house.
The oaks and pines around Hazelwood and Lake Junaluska fill gutters fast, and an overflowing gutter at 2,700 feet becomes an ice problem by January. We install seamless gutters sized for the roof area, with downspouts routed away from the foundation, and we clean and repair existing runs.
Walk the streets off Main Street, through Frog Level, or along the older blocks of Hazelwood and you will see roofs that have been replaced two and three times since the house was built. Some of those replacements were done by laying new shingles over old, which hides the decking and adds weight to framing that was sized for one layer. When we quote an older home we look at whether a second layer is there, what the decking is (plank boards on many pre-war houses, not plywood), and how the roof is vented, because an unvented attic under a dark shingle roof cooks the shingles from below in July.
Chimneys and valleys are the other places an old house leaks. Brick chimneys on homes around Lake Junaluska and in the Main Street and Frog Level historic districts often have flashing that was mortared in decades ago and has since pulled away. We reflash chimneys with step and counter flashing as part of a replacement rather than sealing over what is there, and we tell you if the chimney itself needs a mason before we go any further.
Mountain Subdivisions Above the Town
Above Waynesville the lots get steeper and the roofs get more complicated. Homes in the newer subdivisions toward Balsam and up the slopes on either side of the valley tend to have multiple gables, long valleys, and pitches steep enough that the crew works roped in. Many of them went in during the 1990s and 2000s with a shingle rated for twenty-five years, so the first generation of those roofs is reaching the end of its life now.
Exposure is the issue on those lots. A ridgeline house takes wind that a house in town never sees, and the first things to go are the ridge cap and the shingles along the rake edges. If you only use the house part of the year, call us after a big wind event and we will go up and look; a lifted shingle in October is a cheap fix, and the same shingle in February is a leak you will not find until the ceiling stains.
Why Waynesville Homeowners Call Arolite Group
Half an hour down I-40. Waynesville is a straight run west from our office on Church Street in Asheville, close enough that an exterior consultant gets on the roof and sits down with you rather than quoting over the phone.
Built for the elevation. At 2,700 feet the roof has to handle ice at the eaves and freeze-thaw across the whole slope, so we spec underlayment, ice barrier and ventilation for Waynesville winters, not for the piedmont.
A written price, explained in person. You get photos of what we found, a line-item quote, and an exterior consultant across the table from you to go through it.
One crew for the whole exterior. Roof, siding and gutters from the same people, scheduled as one job, with the site cleaned up at the end of every day.
Do you come out to Waynesville, or quote from Asheville?
We come out. An exterior consultant gets on the roof, takes photos, and goes through the findings and a written price with you in person. Waynesville is about half an hour from our office at 133 Church Street in Asheville, and Haywood County is one of the three counties we work in.
What does the roof inspection cost in Waynesville?
Nothing. The inspection, the photos and the written estimate are free, and there is no obligation to hire us afterward.
Can you help with a wind or tree damage insurance claim in Haywood County?
Yes. We document the damage with photos and a written scope and help you through the insurance side. Storm, wind and tree damage repair is one of our core services, alongside full replacement.
Will you replace the roof on an older house near Main Street or in Frog Level?
Yes. Older homes often have plank decking, more than one layer of shingles or old chimney flashing. We inspect for all three and price any decking replacement up front rather than finding it on the day.
Is metal roofing an option on a Waynesville house?
It is. Standing-seam metal is one of our core services, and we quote it alongside an architectural shingle option so you can compare both on your own roof.
Can a Waynesville roof be financed?
Yes. Financing is available, and an exterior consultant can walk you through it at the estimate. Our hours are Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
What Our Customers Say
Reviews left by Arolite Group customers on Google, Facebook and Angi, shown word for word.
These guys are great. I had a roof done about 2 months ago due to wind damage. They came, removed the old roof, installed a new better roof and cleaned up all within 1 day. The owner was extremely pleasant and wasn't trying to sell you something. He was to the point. Direct. And honest. I told him what I needed and he found the option that worked best for me. All within a 2 week lead time. I have had no issue with the roof since and they did it right the first time.
