Apple country, a flatter valley floor, and subdivisions going up along I-26 faster than anywhere else in the mountains.
South of Asheville the land opens up. Henderson County begins around the airport in Fletcher and runs down I-26 and US-25 through Mills River, Hendersonville and Flat Rock to the South Carolina line, with Etowah and Laurel Park off to the west and the orchard country of Edneyville and Dana to the east. It is twenty-five minutes from our office on Church Street to Main Street in Hendersonville, and it is regular territory for us.
This is the flattest ground we work on. The valley floor along the French Broad and Mud Creek is broad and open, which means the roofs are more exposed to sun and wind than the houses tucked into coves in Haywood County, and the snow that matters up there mostly falls as cold rain here. What Henderson County has instead is growth: new subdivisions off I-26 in Fletcher and Mills River, infill around Hendersonville, and a lot of houses that were built fast in the same five-year window and are now reaching the age where the original builder-grade roof needs replacing all at once.
A large share of the homeowners who call us from Henderson County are retirees, many of them in a house they bought to stay in. What they tend to want is one roof they will not have to think about again, a contractor who shows up when they say they will, and a price that is written down before anyone starts. That is the way we work everywhere, but it is the whole reason people here hire us.
Most of our Henderson County replacements are on houses from the 1990s and 2000s whose first roof has simply reached the end. The decking is usually sound, so the work is a clean tear-off, new underlayment, fresh flashing at every penetration and an architectural shingle that will outlast the one that came off. The exterior consultant who inspected it brings the itemized price to your kitchen table.
If you have just bought a house in Fletcher or Mills River, or you are deciding whether to repair or replace before you sell, the inspection answers it. An exterior consultant gets on the roof, photographs the shingles, the flashing and the gutters, and tells you plainly how much life is left. There is no charge and no obligation.
The older houses around Hendersonville, Flat Rock and Laurel Park carry a lot of wood siding, and the subdivisions of the 1990s carry early vinyl that has faded and cracked. We replace either one over new house wrap, flash the windows and doors properly, and since the same company does the roof, the line where the roof meets the wall is handled once rather than argued over by two contractors.
Henderson County gets its share of heavy rain, and on an open lot the water comes off the roof fast. Undersized or sagging gutters push it against the foundation and the fascia instead of away from the house. We install new seamless gutters, usually right after the roof while the drip edge is exposed, and we size the downspouts for the roof area rather than for what the builder put on.
Henderson County has been one of the fastest-growing counties in Western North Carolina for two decades, and most of that growth is subdivisions: Fletcher and Mills River along I-26, the south side of Hendersonville toward Flat Rock, and the newer streets off US-64 toward the orchards. Those houses share a profile. Builder-grade three-tab or early architectural shingles, minimal flashing, ridge vents that were installed as an afterthought, and a thirty-year roof that was never going to see thirty years. When one house on the street needs a roof, the rest usually do too.
Working in a subdivision has its own rules. Many of these neighborhoods have a homeowners association with a say over color and material, and we check that before the estimate so the shingle you pick is one you are allowed to put up. The lots are tighter than the farms they replaced, so we protect the driveway and the neighbor's side of the fence, and we clean up before the truck leaves every evening.
Older Houses, Orchards and the Western Side
Hendersonville itself, Flat Rock and Laurel Park are a different proposition. The housing is older, the lots are shaded by big hardwoods and white pines, and the roofs are steeper with more dormers and valleys. On the Flat Rock side there are houses from the summer-colony era with wood siding and complicated rooflines, and up Laurel Park toward Jump Off Rock the pitches get steep enough that staging matters. Those jobs look more like our Asheville work than our Fletcher work, and we plan them that way.
East of town, out through Edneyville and Dana, the orchards bring open ground, strong sun and hail that shows up some years and not others. Hail here is occasional rather than annual, but when it comes it comes across a wide area, and an inspection after a hail event is worth the half hour. Farmhouses and outbuildings in apple country often carry metal, and we install standing-seam there when it is the right call.
Why Henderson County Homeowners Choose Us
An exterior consultant sits down with you. Not a number texted from a truck. Someone who has been on your roof goes through an itemized estimate with you in person, answers every question, and leaves it with you.
Quality first, not the lowest bid. We are not the bargain roofer, and we do not pretend to be. The estimate covers decking, underlayment, flashing and ventilation properly, so the roof lasts the way a retiree buying their last roof expects it to.
Daily updates, and the yard clean every evening. Customers mention the communication and the cleanup in their reviews, and both matter more on a tight subdivision lot with a neighbor on either side.
Roof, siding and gutters from one crew. On a 1990s house where all three have reached the end at once, one contractor doing all of it saves weeks, ladders and the question of who is responsible for the joint between them.
Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Fletcher, Mills River, Etowah and Laurel Park, plus the orchard country out toward Edneyville and Dana. Henderson County is one of the three counties we cover, with Buncombe and Haywood, and Hendersonville is about twenty-five minutes from our Asheville office.
Will you come out to Fletcher or Mills River for a free inspection?
Yes. The inspection is free anywhere in Henderson County. An exterior consultant gets on the roof, photographs what they find and goes through it with you in person along with a written, itemized estimate.
My subdivision has an HOA. Does that affect a roof replacement?
Often it affects the color and sometimes the material. We ask about the HOA before the estimate is written so the shingle you choose is one the association will approve, and the exterior consultant can help with any paperwork the HOA wants to see.
Do you replace siding in Hendersonville as well as roofs?
Yes. Roofing, siding and gutters are our core services, and one company handles all three. On an older Hendersonville or Flat Rock house with wood siding, or a 1990s house with faded vinyl, we can do the roof and the siding as one job.
Is financing available for a new roof in Henderson County?
Yes. We offer financing options, and your exterior consultant will go over them with you when they bring the estimate. The office is open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at (828) 818-8392.
What Our Customers Say
Reviews left by Arolite Group customers on Google, Facebook and Angi, shown word for word.
These guys are great. I had a roof done about 2 months ago due to wind damage. They came, removed the old roof, installed a new better roof and cleaned up all within 1 day. The owner was extremely pleasant and wasn't trying to sell you something. He was to the point. Direct. And honest. I told him what I needed and he found the option that worked best for me. All within a 2 week lead time. I have had no issue with the roof since and they did it right the first time.

It was a pleasure to work with this company. Jeff Smith and Hayden Mitchell were knowledgeable, professional and helpful. They worked with us to achieve the look we wanted while considering our budget. They installed new windows and applied vinyl siding on our home. We are very pleased with the end result and would use Arolite Group again.
